There is so much to do at the St Albans Food and Drink Festival that I thought I’d give you some advance warning so you can book some dates in your diary.
This year’s festival will run from 28 September with the start of the famous Beer Festival until the Finale Street Market and Kitchen on Sunday 9th October. The Sunday will be the main foodie day when the town centre will be filled with street markets, stalls and pop-up restaurants. Look out for the demonstration kitchen and appearances from local chefs. There will be plenty of food to try and buy, suitable for the whole family.
If you would like to attend the Awards this year, they will be held in the beautiful setting of St Michael’s Manor. If the evening stays warm and dry as it did last year, drinks may be out on the terrace overlooking the lake and park. Tickets will be £25 per head and will include a delicious seasonal buffet and welcome cocktails from Mokoko and wine from Flagship Wines. You will be in the company of many local foodies, chefs, owners, producers and publicans, all very interested to see who has won this year’s awards! This will be a sell-out event so buy tickets early. Earlier in the week St Michael’s Manor is hosting an “Evening of Gastronomy” in aid of The Cure Parkinson’s Trust and St Albans Cathedral Music Trust. Champagne, canapes and a 5 course tasting menu with complementary wines will be served. Tickets are £95.
Another event to book in is the Poggenpohl Gourmet Night held to raise money for Grove House. Chefs from St Albans restaurants listed in the Good Food Guide 2011 will demonstrate and cook delicious food. Drinks and canapes will be served, and due to the small venue, this always sells out. Tickets are just £15.
I’m also interested in the Cocktail masterclass being held at The Black Lion, Fishpool St on 5th October. You will learn how to make four cocktails, and of course, taste them all. This has to be a great excuse for a night out! Wine enthusiasts have a number of events to go to, including the Flagship event at the lovely venue St Albans School and an Introduction to Wine Tasting at the Hertfordshire Wine School.
I’m slightly worried, but also curious about Bucko’s Hot Dog Eating competition! They have been running heats through the summer, with the aim to eat as many as you can in 20 minutes. The two finalists will go head-to-head on 6th October at 3pm at Bucko’s. Go along and watch!
There are many events and special offers and I will try to cover more of them in the next few weeks, but do pick up a brochure in the Tourist Office or in local pubs, cafes and restaurants.
