Roman beer

Rory McGrath has been filming a TV prog in St Albans about beer and Romans. I am not entirely sure what it is all about but they were digging in the car park at the Six Bells in St Michaels looking for archaeological clues about beer I think!

Meanwhile, over at The Farmer’s Boy and the Verulam Brewery on London Road, headbrewer Kevin Yelland was given the task of recreating a Roman ale.

He used water from the River Ver, plants from the riverbank, wild fruit from a local garden and local honey. Sounds delicious!  Look out for the programme on Channel 5.
