Pick your own opens this Saturday!

I love pick-your-own. You entertain the kids, get some lovely fruit, and feel like you’ve done something with the day!

Our local PYO opens this Saturday. Hawkswick Fruit Farm is on the Harpenden Road, midway between St Albans and Harpenden. It’s only open for a short time, as long as the strawbs last so get there quick!

Strawberries, raspberries, blackcurrants and my favourite red gooseberries. You can cycle there or drive (be ready to turn in quickly when you see the sign). Loads of parking. Collect a punnet at the wooden hut then get picking. Pay as you leave. Yum!

We went yesterday in the late afternoon and there weren’t many ripe berries left (lots still to come, though, if folks will just leave them alone until they’re ready!) But was amazed that we were picking from rows of berries raised above the ground – almost at chest height! There was no straw to be seen among the strawberries! Lovely setting, though, will definitely be going back!
